“The corporate messaging and collaboration market has long been dominated by a few large players at the top, while smaller niche players vie for the remaining market share. The top three vendors have historically been Microsoft with its Exchange Server platform, IBM with its Notes/Domino platform, and Novell with its GroupWise platform.

The next release of GroupWise, currently codenamed “Bonsai,” recently entered initial Beta tests and is due for general availability in late 2008. This next version of GroupWise focuses extensively on providing users with a more integrated workgroup collaboration experience and offers key enhancements in the following areas:

• Interface Management and Flexibility
• Email functionality
• Calendaring
• Address Books
• Integration with Novell Teaming + Conferencing

While the new features in all of the above areas are interesting and exiting in of themselves, the main aspect that we believe will attract users is the tight level of integration across all the above features and functionality which delivers a truly cohesive collaboration experience that adds real value to day to day company workgroup interactions.

We believe that with the Bonsai release, Novell will again position itself as an innovation leader in the messaging and collaboration market and will offer the true level of collaboration functionality that Microsoft and IBM Lotus are also promoting but which so far has alluded them due to conflicting requirements when it comes to bundling and pricing.

We expect that GroupWise 8 and Bonsai will be well received by Novell’s loyal customer and developer community, but we think its highly integrated functionality will also draw interest from new customers, particularly in the SMB space, which are looking for more affordable and easy to implement collaboration solutions.”
