For many years many people have been saying – “so if GroupWise is such a great solution, why can’t I use it at home?”. And with the new version GroupWise Bonsai coming up, this gets even more interesting, as many of the new features would be an excellent fit at home as well.
Having GroupWise @ Home will make many people very happy, as this new version will beat the competition at almost all aspects.
The GroupWise community connected by GroupWiseR has had discussions with Novell about this for quite some time and now needs your feedback to really build the case for GroupWise @ Home.
You might say: using GroupWise @ Home, can’t I already do that? Well, yes, GroupWise supports POP3 and IMAP4 and you can indeed install it at home. And yes, if your organization is using GroupWise and you or your users want to use the same great solution at home, you are entitled to simply take the client and install that at home, free of charge.
However, there are still a few things missing to make this a perfect solution at home, like a wizard to make the first installation including the creation of a POP3 or IMAP4 account easier. And perhaps some menu items that are not necessary in this GroupWise @ Home mode need to be removed.
Anyway, we need your feedback on this. We’re already a bit late in the creation process of Bonsai, but it looks like the time is right to give this project a serious shot.
Join us in this initiative and let’s see if we can build a strong case to get GroupWise @ Home.
We appreciate your feedback by completing the survey, thanks very much.

Why not??
Do the brain-cells at Novell really need convincing that this is just another form of “marketting”?
Works for MS / Google etc.
Be prepared for moans from Outlook & other users – but that’s good feedback really!
Any software can be IMPROVED.
They ought to just give the client away free for use pop/imap and license it by mailbox.
I love the new look of Bonsai and would try it at home. This could be a great way of getting none Novell customers a way to try it.
Survey doesn’t work (it expired).
I was also asking for GW client to be used as a standalone product for home use. But also I asked for 5-user GW demo (it used to be available with GW 4.1) where there is a simulation of virtual users that were sending each other emails, assigning tsaks and scheduling meetings. It was a great sales tool! Can you create a VM image for such purposes?
Absolutely Yes.
The client is great and easy to use.
I use GroupWise for years!
Novell needs to promote its products and that is a way to do it!
I would also like to see the client be distributed more freely and have a “first-run” option which will allow users to choose POP/IMAP and GroupWise as choices.
I believe for a non-GroupWise user a First-Run option is essential if it is to be adopted as a POP/IMAP client.
My vote is YES

of course. “we” have been asking Novell to support this for years. Idiotic that it has not been done. Of course it WILL require some new “first run” or something code, to make the process more clear. Stoopid that we still have to be asking …
With some thanks to former Product Manager Howard Taylor I installed GW as standalone as Novell never ever was prepared to make a standalone version. Works pretty well with users from 7 to 77 years old.
I’m delighted to looking forward for a real stand-alone version, that hides the server-oriënted issues and promote an improve spam filter.
I hope Novell is willing to make some fuzz around it AND re-focus on GW instead of Evolution.
