Create a User with a Specific FID

Just noticed a golden oldie on Cool Solutions : How to create a GroupWise user with a specific File ID (FID).

This one goes back to the time that I was working at a ministry in the Netherlands in 2004, when a college of mine, who was a well resprected eDirectory expert, showed me the way to change properties that seemed not able to be modified in ConsoleOne. Basically : just disable the view in the page options.

That resulted in a tip I posted in january 2005 : Editing a File ID (FID) Using ConsoleOne.

The FID is the unique (per post office) ID for a GroupWise mailbox, and the use of being able to set a specific FID comes at hand when an admin wants to create a GroupWise user with a specific File ID (FID) for accessing an archive, or restoring a deleted user.

Since then, I’ve seen several versions of more or less the same TID, based on the tip.

GWGuru nominated it for tip of the year.

I am glad to see this idea is still in people’s minds and practices.

Note : the referrred program FIDIt is no longer more supported by Email Essentials Inc., but part of GWArchive / M+Archive by Messaging Architects (also read these blog items).
